Road to Carling Cup
Despite their many chances, Liverpool failed to score in their 3-0 loss in the 2012 opener against Manchester City. Eight days later, the Reds again travel to Manchester to face City, this time for the first leg of the league cup semi-final, hoping for a chance to show their true colors.
Liverpool just came off a 5-1 win against Oldham to advance to the next round of the FA cup competition, in a match that saw Stewart Downing scored his first goal in Liverpool uniform.
As for City, their road to FA cup ended with a 3-2 loss to Manchester United after a spurious referee decision that saw Vincent Kompany taking an early shower. Liverpool will be without star striker Luis Suarez who is serving an eight-match ban and City will be without Kompany for his red card in the game against Man United.
